Trial Rights
A criminal jury trial is a complicated legal proceeding to determine the guilt or innocence of the person charged with a crime. The jury is generally made up of twelve people picked from the community at large. A defendant in a criminal jury trial has numerous rights. These rights include the right to have an attorney represent him at all stages of the proceeding, the rights to present evidence and call witnesses in his behalf, the right to confront and cross examine witnesses against him, the right to testify or not, and if he chooses not to testify, the prosecutor can’t comment on his failure to testify, the right to an impartial jury and the right to have a trial free from prejudicial publicity.
